Description

Nominated as one of America’s best-loved novels by PBS’s The Great American Read

The worldwide bestseller—now a major motion picture directed by Steven Spielberg.

In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he's jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade's devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world's digital confines—puzzles that are based on their creator's obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them.

But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade's going to survive, he'll have to win—and confront the real world he's always been so desperate to escape.

This book takes you on an unimaginable journey through the eyes of Wade Owen Watts. The story has many twists and turns that allow it to surprise you and makes you feel like you are inside the story. It is excellently written and amazingly fun to read.
  • Amazing Book but See the Movie First

Seriously, I saw the movie first and, let me tell you, had I read the book THEN seen the movie, it would have ruined the movie experience for me and I’m not a book elitist. For sure, read the book though.

A fun story to read full of much deeper meanings and messages while presenting great characters each with their own tragedies. It’s a great recommendation to all those who love the 80’s and gaming.
  • Not a good book...

It might be good when it comes to nostalgia, but this guy can’t write. What little dialogue there is is written poorly and if you take all the references to pop culture out you see just how boring these characters and story are.

Being a child of the late 70’s, with my formative years falling directly within the 1980’s, this boom brought back so many memories. I found myself consumed by the story, all except the unnecessary attempts to insult religious people. Other than those few immature attacks lacking any foundation in logic, ninety-nine percent of the book was worth the three days it took me to read. I’ve already highly recommend this book to others.
