Nevada Barr is one of my favorite authors and I have read most of her books. That said, this is not one of my favorite Anna Pigeon stories. It was not as action packed as most of her previous ones, thus for me the pace was disappointingly slow. As usual, the tale was a creative one, but this time it strained credulity. In Barr’s favor, her use of language is still well above average and her descriptions of the natural environment are moving, at times waxing poetic. I hope that Barr continues writing Anna Pigeon/National Park adventure stories, and I recommend to her the Great Smoky Mountains National Park as a setting. After all, it is the most visited NP and is rich in history and fascinating stories. As such I think the book would have wide appeal.

  • A Zillion printing errors! Ms. Barr should be embarrassed.

So many typos; incorrect words. Even sentences repeated. Awful! Not one of her best books either. A great story but tons of inconsistencies and a schmarmy ending. :(
